Book/What to Expect
If you’re not sure where to start, you’re in the right place. Most people arrive at BodyLink with a mix of questions, concerns, and “we’ve tried a few things already”.
For parents, that often looks like juggling school feedback, behaviour, tiredness, and the worry that your child is working harder than they should. For adults, it can be the quieter feeling that you’re functioning, but not feeling like yourself.
The best place to start
For most people, the best first step is an initial appointment (assessment). After that, we’ll refer to this as your initial appointment and focus on moving forward with the plan.
An initial appointment helps us:
- understand what’s been going on
- identify what’s most relevant (and what isn’t)
- recommend the most appropriate pathway
- give you a clear plan and next steps
If you already know which service you want, you can still book directly. If you’re unsure, book an initial appointment and we’ll guide you.
What happens at the initial appointment
A lot of people worry they need to arrive with the “right information” or the perfect explanation. You don’t. We’ll guide the process, ask the right questions, and keep it calm and clear.
Your first visit is designed to bring clarity. We keep things calm, practical, and easy to follow.
For children
We’ll explore things like:
- what you’re noticing at home and what school is reporting
- learning, coordination, attention and regulation patterns
- developmental history (in a simple, relevant way)
- what you’ve already tried and what’s helped (or hasn’t)
For teens and adults
We’ll explore things like:
- what’s changed and what you want to improve
- stress load, recovery and capacity
- patterns that may be contributing
- what a realistic plan looks like for your goals
What you’ll leave with
Most people leave the first appointment feeling lighter. Not because everything is solved in one visit, but because they finally have a clearer picture of what matters most and what to do next.
- a clear understanding of the most helpful starting point
- recommended next steps (and why)
- an outline of what support could look like over time
- space to ask questions and feel confident moving forward
If you’re unsure what’s relevant, don’t worry. We’ll guide the process.
You don’t need to overthink it. A few simple things help:
- Think about your main goal: What would “better” look like in 3 months?
- Bring any relevant info: reports, notes, or key history if you have it (not required)
- For children: if there are recent school comments or learning observations, bring them along
- Arrive a few minutes early so you can settle
How to prepare
What happens after your initial appointment
After your initial appointment, there are usually three possibilities:
1
You leave with a simple plan and next steps
Sometimes the next step is straightforward and doesn’t require a long program.
2
We recommend a structured pathway
For many children, this may involve the Learning & Development Program (Reflex Integration).
For whole-family wellbeing, regulation, or recovery support, it may involve Whole-Family Health & Recovery (NIS).
3
We suggest another support alongside (or before) BodyLink
If something else would be more appropriate first, we’ll tell you. Our goal is clarity, not keeping you in the dark.
