Dyslexia Support
When a child is struggling with reading and writing, it can quickly affect everything: confidence, school engagement, behaviour at home, and how they see themselves as a learner.
Based in Silverdale, Auckland. Support can sit alongside your SCHOOL SUPPORT, TUTORING AND OTHER SERVICES.
At BodyLink, we offer calm, non-invasive support for children who find reading, spelling, writing, and learning unusually hard. Our aim is to help you understand what might be contributing and give you clear next steps, without blame or overwhelm.
When reading and writing feel harder than they should
Many parents describe the same pattern: their child is bright, curious, and capable, but reading and writing feel like walking through mud. Progress is slow. Confidence drops. And the longer it goes on, the more effort it takes to keep them engaged.
Sometimes dyslexia is part of the picture. Sometimes there are other factors making literacy harder: attention load, visual tracking, coordination, regulation, fatigue, or the sheer stress of repeated struggle.
Our job is to take a whole-child view, identify what’s most relevant for your child, and support the foundations that make learning feel more achievable.
Common signs of dyslexia-style challenges
You don’t need every sign to benefit from support. These are simply common experiences families share:
- slow, effortful reading
- losing place on a line or skipping words
- difficulty sounding out unfamiliar words
- reading fatigue or avoidance
Spelling and Writing
- spelling that doesn’t “stick” even with practice
- messy, slow or very effortful writing
- avoiding writing tasks or melting down during homework
- difficulty organising ideas on paper
Reading
Learning and confidence
- inconsistent performance (can do it one day, can’t the next)
- anxiety, frustration, or shutdown around school tasks
- saying things like “I’m dumb” or “I can’t do it”
- strong verbal ability but weaker written output
If these sound familiar, the initial appointment helps us clarify what’s going on and what support is most likely to help.
How we approach support at BodyLink
BodyLink does not replace specialist educational assessment or diagnosis. What we do offer is non-invasive wellbeing support that looks at the brain and body connection and the foundations that can influence learning.
For many children, dyslexia-style challenges sit alongside other load factors, such as:
- attention and regulation challenges
- coordination and motor planning difficulties
- visual tracking and focus demands
- sensory load and overwhelm
- fatigue and low learning stamina
Depending on what we find, support may involve:
- Child Development & Learning Support (a parent-friendly starting point)
- our Learning & Development Program (Reflex Integration) when developmental foundations appear relevant
- a broader plan that supports regulation and capacity so learning is less effortful
We keep it practical and child-friendly. The focus is on what helps your child function better day-to-day.
Sometimes the first change is emotional: less dread around schoolwork. More willingness. More calm. That matters.
We don’t promise instant results or guaranteed outcomes. What we aim for is meaningful change that shows up in real life.
Families often look for shifts such as:
- improved tolerance for reading and writing tasks
- reduced frustration and avoidance
- better learning stamina and attention
- improved confidence and willingness to try
- smoother homework routines at home
What you might notice over time

We’ll:
- talk through what you’re seeing at home and what school is reporting
- explore learning history and current challenges
- observe patterns that may be contributing
- explain what we think is most important (in plain language)

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you diagnose dyslexia?
No. We don’t diagnose. We provide non-invasive wellbeing support that can sit alongside educational assessments, tutoring, and school support.
Should we still see a specialist or get testing?
If you’re considering formal identification or school accommodations, specialist assessment can be helpful. We can support your child alongside that process.
Is this tutoring?
No. This is not a tutoring service. We focus on supporting underlying foundations that can affect learning, regulation, and capacity.
Can you work alongside school support?
Yes. Many families use BodyLink support alongside what school is doing.
How long does support take?
It varies by child. We’ll discuss what a realistic plan looks like after the initial appointment.
